Relay Recap
We started at 2:30am, leaving from Shakespeare Beach in Dover and landed about 1/2 mile west of the lighthouse at Cap Gris Nez in France. The swim order was
The first 3 swimmers swam in the dark ("no worries") and all of us except for the 14 year-old Joanna (a real cutie pie) got seasick due to the nonstop rocking of the boat ("no mercy"). Robert earned the Mother Theresa award for his ability to take care of all of us "fish feeders". (He held on until after we finished the swim.) And Mark Green earned the Father of the Year award for taking care of Julia for a week while I pursued my foolish endeavors. No sooner had our boat docked back in Dover than Robert, Carolyn, and I were off again, to crew a solo swim for Kathleen Hynes who swam the Channel on August 29 in 11 hours, 59 minutes. The three of us also paced her at various spots during her swim. Fortunately, the seas were flat calm for her solo swim and she cranked the whole way towards France. It was a great time but I needed a few weeks to recover! Best Fishes, Marcia
